Locating Clubhouse
Located in the city of Raipur, Chhattisgarh, with dry Intense heat and summer temperatures reaching 42 to 45 deg C (108 to 113 deg F), the clubhouse sits on a 42-acre villa development master planned by us.

Site Features
Located at the entrance on a triangular plot, the Gulmohar Clubhouse enjoys convenient access for both residents and visitors. The site’s unique shape inspired a plan where two rectangles meet at a right angle, culminating in a circle.

Functions in the Clubhouse
The junction houses a library, while the circular portion accommodates the restaurant, spa, and swimming pool. Every space opens to curated gardens or courtyards that allow light, air, and ventilation to permeate the interiors.

Material Play
Natural materials dominate the palette: dry-pack Sadharhalli granite, vertical fluted granite, river-finished Kota stone on walkways, polished grey terrazzo flooring, and polished cement ceilings. These tactile surfaces create a layered material experience. Striking red oxide finish on key columns adds a bold design element at the entrance and pool.

Climate-Sensitive Design
The primary pitched roof clad in cooling terracotta clay tiles dramatically cantilevers outward, shielding the building from Raipur’s harsh summer sun. A covered passageway runs from the entrance to the restaurant, its roof suspended by steel struts to avoid columns, enabling uninterrupted garden views.

Blending with the Surroundings
We integrated the architecture with lush greenery, blurring boundaries between indoors and outdoors. The clubhouse maintains a horizontal, grounded form with expansive terracotta-tiled roofs that blend seamlessly with the landscape. Despite its 55,000 square foot size, the ground-plus-one structure complements the low-rise residential context.

The library and café border serene waterbodies with temple trees, while the circular restaurant and spa overlook tropical water features framed by plant-draped pergolas.

Functionally, the clubhouse accommodates banquet and short-stay rooms, a theatre, squash and badminton courts, a library, café, games room, restaurant, swimming pool, spa, yoga room, and gym. Each area is designed to open into nature.

Architecturally, the building is defined by linear, orthogonal, and horizontal elements. To balance this, we introduced fluid interior features, curved lines on the furniture, fluid slatted screens, and soft, earthy color palettes of greens, ochres, aquas, and rust, echoing the natural surroundings.

Drawing on the design vocabulary from our tropical residential work, we extended those principles to a public space. The seamless integration of architecture, interiors, landscape, and even the signage reflects a holistic and cohesive design approach in this project.
